Belum Rainforest Forest

Belum is actually a Malay word. The meaning is 'still not'. It is actually a very big forest before 1974 but now it has been turned into a man make lake. The purpose of the lake is to generate hidroelectric. It is located in north region of Perak State and is quite near to the town of Grik or about 100km from Jeli town in Kelantan.

After the water emerged the forest, many of the mountain here turn into beautiful islands. There are still many natives stay in the forest here or better called it island now. Many of them still live in the ways same like their ancestor but some of them already have many modern equipments in their house. Anyway their house still made in bamboo and atap. What I learnt form them is they want to keep their culturul.

The natives here still go into the forest to collect fruit or hunt for animal. Only few of them work outside the town. Their live is really simple. Sleep, wake up and do nothing the whole day for the woman. If you prefer this type of life please come and join them. Just pay some money to them then you are always welcome.
